Kay and I arrived in Columbus, Ohio today but before that we had to stop in Jeffersonville and spend some money at the Outlet mall! We have to help the economy. Kay got shoes and I got a new purse!
Met up with Bruce Magidson, our wonderful friend and fellow vendor of Sew Batik for dinner and had a great time catching up on events. Tomorrow we set up the booth and then it begins. We love the NQA quilt show!
Kathy and I are on the road again. We are traveling to Columbus, Ohio for the NQA quilt show.
We left today and stopped in Cincinnati for the nite. Before we left, we put out the new Christmas fabrics. It is not too soon to start thinking about Christmas. We are sewing new samples to display and kit.
Also, whenever we travel, we have a sale at the shop. Go in and check out what is on sale! We are in the process of taking a class on blogging with Blogelina. Be patient with us and our blogging, tweeting, and Facebook posts. Check them out to see what is happening with us this week.
The sun shines, (but not today!) on everything out front so it is difficult to keep anything growing. We are getting ready to go to Crossville TN for their quilt show. The show starts Friday through Sunday. Go check it out!! We have new merchandise arriving this week. Fall and Christmas fabrics galore! It’s not too early to get those Christmas projects started.
We finished packing the suburban this morning and were on the road by 11am. That was excellent timing for our drive to Camp Tecumseh. We can’t see out the back window because we have so much merchandise for the camp! Look out, here we come!
We don’t know what to expect but “camping” always involves mosquitoes so the first thing packed was bug spray.
Have great plans to get a lot of sewing done. We have more projects than time, I am sure!
We brought our hula hoops for exercise, our lounge chairs for lounging and our Bailey’s for entertainment.
Going through Louisville, we exercised restraint and didn’t stop for Cherry pie at the pie kitchen. We may regret that decision later, probably around midnight!
I’m back!! We got back from our 2 week road trip. We had no problems, no blow outs, and met up with old and new friends. Now we are preparing for Paducah in 2 weeks. Wow,
We are not ready.
I want to talk about threads. Are yours organized? Are they easy to see? Are they separated in to different types? If you answered no, then it may be time to see how you can get this little area of your sewing supplies organized.
Start by getting all your threads in one spot.
Separate into type of thread, machine piecing, embellishment threads, serger threads, hand thread.
Place each type into a container and label.
Know look and see what you are lacking. I found out today, I have no pink thread.
Polyester thread? Did you find some? I have a container full. Don’t sew with polyester thread with 100% cotton fabric. Poly is stronger than cotton. The poly will cut the cotton fibers. I put mine in a large vase set out as a display of color.
What brand of thread do you prefer? We sell Mettler SilkFinish for piecing. Kathy likes it for her machine quilting. It shows up on the quilt. It is a 50wt/3ply. I like to piece with a 50wt/2 ply. It is a little finer thread. I’ve been using DMC, but no distributor sells it, so it is harder to keep supplied. So, I started using Aurifill. I am liking it, very similar to DMC.
Let me know what you are using. Have fun fondling you threads!!!
Have a great weekend! Kay
As you all know by now, I am not the best blogger. This is an area where I could use some help. Is there anyone in Franklin, Tn that could help me? Please call the shop, and see how we can get more people to our sites. 615-794-4769.
Kathy and I made it back home late Sunday nite. It was a LNG day of driving, 13 hours. Kathy dropped me off at my house and took the car and trailer to the shop. When I arrived at the shop on Monday, Kathy had backed the trailer to the door and unloaded it. It was great. She did a great job of backing. We are trying to get caught up this week. Kathy has the newsletter ready to be sent out. Ned will get it out this weekend. Several new classes coming up. Have a great week!!
